Lister House

40 Bed Specialised Dementia Facility

Although Lister House has the same number of rooms as Benore Care Home, this Specially Designed Dementia Facility is 30% larger in size due to the extra design features within the building. A "Street Path" has been incorporated in each of the four 10 bed secure units. This design feature allows service users to walk and walk without coming across a dead end or obstruction. Each is limited to ten people with its own lounge and dining area and incorporates the latest technology to assist service users to live as full a life as possible securely whilst providing peace of mind for their relatives.

The usual high specification provided in facilities operated by Avondale Care Scotland is provided.  In each of the spacious single bedrooms there is an ensuite with shower as well as a 4 part electric profiling bed, a 22" Plasma T.V. with Freeview and DVD player, and a pressure relieving mattresses incorporating sensor pad (which will switch the ensuite light on when the Service User gets out of bed and vice versa when they return). The bedrooms all have low level windows to allow as much natural light as possible and provide a view when sitting down, a nurse call point and a telephone point if required. There is a memory box positioned outside every bedroom door and the signage throughout the building has been chosen with Dementia in mind as has the high quality furniture and the exceptional decor.

There are assisted baths in each unit and a 32" Plasma T.V. with Freeview in each lounge. The Furniture and Fittings are of an exceptionaly high standard throughout and the decor and pictures (Reminiscent Boards) have been carefuly chosen with Dementia in mind.Additionally we are fully computerised with regards to our Care Management System.

The Garden has also been carefuly planned to include a continuos pathway with several resting bays and a pavilion in the centre. The plants have been chosen to provide stimulation and there will be a number of additional features in time which will stimulate communication such as a greenhouse, water feature, etc.

Training within this Dementia Unit is our highest priority. All our staff are fully trained in the Care of Dementia sufferers. Sedonia Lindsay (B Nurs Hons 1st Class) who specialised in Dementia for her Honours Degree, Manages the Dementia Unit reporting to The Care Centre General Manager, Pauline McEwan. Both Sid and Pauline are committed to providing the highest levels of specialised Dementia Care within the Care Sector.

This facility is one you really have to visit to fully appreciate the thought, investment and attention to detail that has gone into the project. It clearly sets a benchmark for Dementia Care and certainly leads the way in Fife and perhaps a far wider area. Lister House has recently been awarded a GOLD AWARD from Stirling University Dementia Services which is a tremendous achievement for the team and provides further evidence of the commitment to provide quality care in a quality environment and make your life better!  dementia.stir.ac.uk
